I'll share the story that led to Meggie Flights being established:
Meg and I met while she was working at Boeing during the summer of 2007. We quickly became good friends and started dating. It was very easy to be drawn to her beautiful personality and cheerful spirit. Throughout the months we spent getting to know eachother one thing became very clear to me--Meg was one of the most well rounded and selfless people I had met in my life. She had a very close relationship with her family and spoke of them daily.
The last day I spent with Meg was a Sunday in September 2007. She was getting ready to head back to school (Mizzou), and we were sitting in my living room having one of our famous political debates. (on the floor since there was no furniture) We switched gears and started talking about the best way to give back to the community since we were finishing up with school and would be working soon. I said Boy Scouts...she said Boys and Girls club...we talked for a couple hours about how the best way to improve the future of our country is through education. We agreed that giving back to the community you live in is a must. After a good discussion, she packed up and headed back to campus.
A couple weeks later she was involved in a car accident on her way to Des Moines. We had spoken that morning, and she was really excited about visiting the Mayo Clinic about their internship program. Meg loved those around her, and ultimately lost her life in pursuit of a job that would help countless others.
Meggie Flights is founded in her memory, and we will operate following her community based spirit.
